There's something about a young rookie winning the Sub League 1 Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Willie Chapman, a 21-year-old starter for the Jersey City Steamers.
In June, he topped off the month with a 4-1 mark and 1.14 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 39.1 innings, fanned 31 and held opposing teams to a .196 average.
So far this year Chapman has a 9-6 record with a 1.93 ERA. |

"Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Pembroke's Julien Bourassa told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."
It definitely turn out well for Bourassa today as he collected 5 hits in 7 at-bats against Jersey City. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Redjackets knocked off the Steamers 5-4 at Redjackets Ballpark.
J. Bourassa singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th, flied out in the 13th and walked in the 16th.
In 2015 Bourassa is batting .331 with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs.

In an impressive outing Rodrigo Sánchez hurled nothing but zeros at the Elephants today at Steamers Ballpark. The Jersey City pitcher allowed 3 hits, fanned 10 and walked 0 in blanking Shreveport 3-0.
