The The Rockett for 2014 has been presented and the Western League winner is Coy Berry of Portland.
"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Berry. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Beavers star told reporters.
Berry excelled with an impressive 18-9 record in 33 starts. In 225 innings he yielded 161 hits and 66 walks, while striking out 238 and compiling a fine 2.56 ERA. |
| Friday, October 24th, 2014: Portland Beats Lowell in World Series
The Portland Beavers were crowned the champions of the Over The Mound today as they put away the Lowell Knights at Snapper Stadium 9-2.
It was the Beavers 3rd time to win it as they finished off the Knights 4-2 in the World Series.
During the Western League Duffy Division regular season Portland put up a 96-66 record and finished first.

 | Tuesday, October 7th, 2014: Portland Dazed, Hays Gets No-Hitter
The crowd sensed something special today at Bill Veeck Park. They seemed to get a little louder with passing of each out and each inning. It was obvious on the scoreboard that the pitcher had a no-hitter.
"It was like the playoffs or the World Series," Devin Hays told the press after the game."
It ended up a very special day for Hays of the Chicago Grizzlies -- he held the Portland Beavers hitless and beat them 2-1, totaling 3 strikeouts with no walks and faced only 30 batters.
"Today was my day and I got lucky. I've had a couple of other shots that I've lost in the seventh inning and today I got through that and made it."
Lucky? Maybe so. But it usually takes more than luck to hold a team hitless.
This year Hays has compiled a 18-6 record with a 3.85 ERA.
