| Breaking News | | Wednesday, October 1st, 2014: EL's Best Starter is Valéncia It was a very good month for Edgardo Valéncia in September. The 38-year-old veteran starter for the Schenectady Blue Jays outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Eastern League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.
Valéncia ran up a 5-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 42.1 innings he fanned 25 and recorded a 2.98 ERA.
To date Valéncia is 15-2 in 21 starts with a 2.96 ERA and has 77 strikeouts in 164 innings. | | Wednesday, September 17th, 2014: Year Over for Blue Jays Case Willie Case at first refused to leave today's Providence-Schenectady game after he suffered a torn calf muscle while running the bases. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty Schenectady shortstop said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Case out of action for 7 months.
Looking at his 2014 season stats, Case has compiled a .286 batting average in 72 games with a .344 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 33 runs. | | Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014: Sheehan Batters Lowell for 5 Hits Rhett Sheehan exploded for a barrage of base hits today at McNearney Stadium. The Schenectady right fielder had a field day in the 12-7 triumph over the Lowell Knights, finishing with a 5-6 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Well, Sheehan must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
R. Sheehan singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th.
This season Sheehan has banged out 172 hits in 532 at-bats for a .323 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .395 pace and his totals also include 53 RBIs and 77 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | SS Willie Case | torn calf muscle | 4 months | On DL, eligible for return | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record on the road | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 0-0, .000 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 0-0, .000 PCT |
