| Breaking News |  | Thursday, November 6th, 2014: Tavárez Is EL's Rookie of the Year
Today the Eastern League announced the winner of the 2014 Rookie of the Year Award. The top-ranked rookie was the talented Pittsburgh left fielder Gabriel Tavárez.
The 22-year-old Pounders newcomer took the trophy by hitting .330 in 162 games this season and finished with 231 hits, 1 home run, 50 RBIs and 103 runs scored. |
 | Sunday, October 5th, 2014: Ojeda Whitewashes Brooklyn
The Hoodrats tried, but could not solve Pittsburgh's Ed Ojeda, falling to the Pounders 1-0. Brooklyn managed only 6 hits off Ojeda, who kept opposing hitters guessing all day. In a strong route-going performance he had 3 strikeouts and walked 0.
In 2014 Ojeda has fashioned a 10-15 mark, 4.38 ERA and pitched 232.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .282 against him and he has logged 75 strikeouts.

 | Friday, October 3rd, 2014: Smiley Slaps 5 Hits
Hal Smiley really did a number on the Hoodrats -- but Brooklyn retaliated and did a number on the Pounders -- they beat them 7-6.
Not just anyone can get 5 hits in 5 at-bats. But Smiley did just that today for Pittsburgh and gave his batting average a healthy boost, but did not deliver the victory.
"I felt real good in the batter's box today. I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done," the 27-year-old second baseman said after his record-setting performance. "I just wish we had won the game, too."
H. Smiley singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off A. Rodríguez in the 8th.
So far this year Smiley is batting .289 with 17 home runs.
