| Breaking News | | Monday, June 29th, 2015: Gothams Chill Kelly's Hot Streak It was the best of both worlds for the New York Gothams today at Nap Lajoie Park as they defeated the Providence Reds 7-4 and also ended Gene Kelly's 25-game hitting streak. The 23-year-old Providence first baseman failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats.
"Nothing personal against Gene, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Gothams skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Kelly frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."
So far in 2015 Kelly is batting .284 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 79 hits in 278 at-bats and a .362 OBP. | | Monday, June 29th, 2015: Burton Makes 300 Mark Providence first baseman Jonathon Burton blasted himself into an elite group of baseball players. Today he joined the exclusive 300 home run club in the Reds 7-4 loss to the New York Gothams.
"As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone. I was happy to move on. Now I can go and have some fun. It is a weight lifted off my shoulders," Burton told the press. He admitted just how much pressure he had been feeling. "Especially every time you'd get out of the hotel, everybody would say, 'Hey, when are you going to hit it?'"
In his milestone game, Burton went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
During his career Burton has chalked up 2102 hits and a .296 average with 300 home runs and 1321 RBIs. | | Sunday, June 28th, 2015: Kelly Runs Hit String to 25 Straight Games Gene Kelly ran his hitting streak to 25 straight games today at Nap Lajoie Park, when he collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
"Hey, the streak is great. I hope it never ends. But I'm not happy when we lose the game," was his comment after Providence was beaten 7-4 by the Woodstock Harlequins.
"The scoreboard tells the whole story." G. Kelly grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and hit a two-run triple in the 7th.
This year Kelly is hitting .288 with 13 home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 34-48, .415 PCT | | Position in Division | 6th, 20.5 GB | | Record at home | 19-21, .475 PCT | | Record on the road | 15-27, .357 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-5, .375 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 14-13, .519 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 10-14, .417 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 24-34, .414 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 7-15, .318 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in July | 2-2, .500 PCT |
